Whats in a word...DUHKA

I learned a new word, Duhka...thanks to Mark, and I am fascinated by its meaning:

Duhka, in Buddhist thought, is the true nature of all existence, and the recognition of the fact of suffering as one of three basic characteristics of existence...along with impermanence and the absence of a self ...constitutes the “right knowledge.”

Duhka is a word which represents all of the  feelings of un-fulfillment, suffering,, insecurity, fears, love, hope and excitement....(yes we suffer even when we are in love because we are at the mercy of changes)

We are never truly happy no matter how much we make, no matter how much we have, there is always something going wrong to spoil things up for us... or so we expect, even when we get what we want...more so then, because we are not used to attaining happiness, so we must punish ourselves and say that it is not enough or perfect less the gods hear about it and send us some "real" punishment for getting more than we deserve.

So, next time you feel imbalanced...think
of Duhka and all its gifts...
Perhaps these are road signs that point us towards an obstacle.... they’re not ‘enemies’ but ‘friends’ along the journey...and don't trick yourself by thinking that this is the road to happiness...it is just a journey to self knowledge, at best to find patience and more compassion for ourselves and others.

What a man!

The ordinary man casts a shadow in a way we do not quite understand. The man of genius casts light.

George Steiner

"The fantastically wasteful prodigality of human tongues, the Babel enigman, points to a vital multiplication of mortal liberties. Each language speaks the world in its own ways. Each edifies worlds and counter-worlds in its own mode. The polyglot is a freer man."

“Language can only deal meaningfully with a special, restricted segment of reality. The rest, and it is presumably the much larger part, is silence.”

“The most important tribute any human being can pay to a poem or a piece of prose he or she really loves is to learn it by heart. Not by brain, by heart; the expression is vital.”

“It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

George Steiner

Buenas Noches

It is good to be back...!!

Let there be spaces...

A friend who is far away is sometimes much nearer than one who is at hand. Is not the mountain far more awe-inspiring and more clearly visible to one passing through the valley than to those who inhabit the mountain?

But let there be spaces in your togetherness and let the winds of the heavens dance between you. Love one another but make not a bond of love: let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.

Kahlil Gibran

The Garden

Update, my friend did not get the house, he offered 52,000 and someone made a cash offer for more, so it is gone. I am glad I had the opportunity to take the photos before it sold.

Still Proud and Beautiful

Forgive me for making this into a slide show...

A friend of mine has placed an offer on this house...so I can't disclose its location.
It is a lovely place, but the kitchen is very small, hardly any room to move around. The house was built in 1911 and has a lovely small attic room with a closet. The strangest thing in this place, it has 3 fire places, back to back and one of them, a kind of reading room, so tiny...you would roast while reading a book.
This house needs some serious remodeling, with enough vision not to destroy its original beauty. Asking price...only 49,900.00!!

Angels and cats

It is already a week and my tree is still in place...I feel as nostalgic as the photo I took of my son. So, here we go, pick up all the Christmas stuff, and hide it away for another year...I don't know if I should save those little dolls or sell them to start again. Some of those have so much work, but the cat faces don't quite make the theme (people tell me they should be angels...as if cats do not enter into the angel realm)

End of the year

It always goes this way...drawing to the end of the year, I get nostalgic, no matter what I do or where I am...longing to be with my family and friends even tho times have changed, we are all busy...but it is, what it is...and music mends my heart.
I was listening to some old songs and took me to many places...this is the last one I found which is amazing, and wanted to share it with y'all.

Why worry...is one of my favorite songs.

The Whale

This has been around before. I think the story is two years old from The San Francisco Chronicle. Its a beautiful story.
Enjoy.
Good sentiments to start the New Year.
My love to you all, Griselda

A  female humpback whale had become entangled in a  spider web of crab  traps and  lines.

She was weighted down by hundreds of pounds of traps  that  caused her to struggle to stay  afloat.

She also had hundreds of yards  of line rope  wrapped around her body, her tail, her torso, a  line tugging in  her  mouth.  A fisherman spotted her just east of  the Faralon Islands (outside  the Golden Gate ) and radioed for  help.  Within a few hours, the rescue team arrived and  determined  that she was so bad off, the only way to save her was to  dive in and  untangle her -- a very dangerous  proposition.  One slap of the  tail could kill a rescuer.   They worked for hours with curved knives and  eventually  freed her. When she was free, the divers say she  swam in  what seemed like joyous circles. She then came back to each and  every diver, one  at a time, nudged them, and pushed gently, thanking  them.  Some said it was the most  incredibly beautiful  experience of their  lives.     The guy who cut the  rope out of her mouth says  her eye was following him the whole  time, and he will never be the same. May you,  and all those you love, be so  fortunate... To be surrounded by people who will  help you get  untangled from the things that are  binding you.  And, may you always know the joy of giving  and  receiving gratitude.   I pass this on to you, my  friend, in the same  spirit

(((((Hugs)))))))

Life is short, Break the rules, Forgive quickly, Kiss  slowly, Love truly, Laugh uncontrollably....Never regret anything that  made you smile

Breathe

Today you are going to be enveloped by the magic. It will be in the air you breathe, the sounds you hear, and the sights you see. Play off the moments in-between the moments, look to the unseen, and give thanks.

Feel it, enjoy it, but most important, use it!

It's already begun,

The Universe
