Pan's Labyrinth

We went to see Pan's Labyrinth, this is a strange and beautiful movie, but the violence is so prevalent, it makes you wonder how people can be so cruel and others so brave. I had to look away during some very intense moments, my 13 year old was not happy and kept on poking at me as if I could prevent the next scene. I am not sure what is the difference from this one to all the Lord of the Rings movies he keeps on watching over and over again.

The haunting music is delicious the scenery spectacular and it is set during one of the darkest hours in the history of Spain, it brought for me memories of my two aunts (fathers sisters) who married two wonderful men in the middle 40's who had migrated to my hometown and left all they had because of Franco.

This little girl in the story learns how to scape the horror of the civil war in Spain, yet, the places she visits in her fantasy world are no less strange and terrifying than her present reality. Not for children under 13.
